Artist’s Statement

I am interested in finding the drama of light and shadow in the landscape and trying to capture the essence of the scene in front of me. The tools of painting being design, tone, color, application and edges are being used to capacity to try and interpret the obvious and include the mysterious lost areas that engage my viewers attention.

Because I paint on location two days a week I’m often motivated to paint on days when the light is not perfect. On these days, I try to embrace the subtitles of tone and color and work on creating a truthful harmony across the canvas.

I’m also interested in capturing the effects people have on nature and often select man-made objects as the center of interest in my paintings.
